From what I've heard...
I've heard that in some cases owners of the c22 sailing in protected waters removed the lockbolt and glassed over the hole. It solves two problems: 1. Damage to the keel trunk if you run aground with the lock engaged.2. Forgetting to unlock the keel when retracting it, scoring the keel in the process. However I wouldn't sail in heavy seas without the lock. You can buy one and install it if you want, but if you're on an inland lake, forget about it (in my opinion).-Keith K.S/V Vesta#6348
