Catalina 22 swing keel lock down bolt location

I just purchased a 1981 Catalina 22. I was locking for the swing keel lock down bolt and could not find it under the forward port dinette seat. Is it possible that this model did not come with this system???

From what I've heard...

I've heard that in some cases owners of the c22 sailing in protected waters removed the lockbolt and glassed over the hole. It solves two problems: 1. Damage to the keel trunk if you run aground with the lock engaged. 2. Forgetting to unlock the keel when retracting it, scoring the keel in the process. However I wouldn't sail in heavy seas without the lock. You can buy one and install it if you want, but if you're on an inland lake, forget about it (in my opinion). -Keith K. S/V Vesta #6348
