After closer inspection of the rudder on my recently purchased 1976 Catalina 22 I found a crack on the leading edge of the rudder. I've expanded the crack to be about 1/2 wide, 1 in long and 1 in deep. At the bottom is soggy wood framing. The question is how aggressively should I be in eliminating the affected rudder framing? The rudder seams sound. The discussion from the archives followed the path of total elimination, but that was on a 30 footer. My alternate plan is to fill the exploration whole with epoxy and re-gelcoat the rudder.
