How does the Catalina 22 MKII wing keel model handle in light air? If wind was 5 knots and flat seas, what would the speed be on a reach with the 150 jib? If wind dropped to 2 to 3 knots, would you move at all? In heavier winds of 15 to 20 knots, would the boat be viewed as tender or relatively stable assuming appropriate reefing? Any other comments on performance are appreciated.

Terry I own a fin in the MKll series, but have sailed with a friend that owns a wing keel MKll. In the short time we sailed together, there was no real difference between the two boats. In light air the boat moves out fast because of its light weight but is stable. One thing my wife had a hard time getting used to was its fast reaction to the wind...When a gust would hit, say 10 to 15 knots, when the wind was blowing 5 to 8..., it would blow us FAST to about 15 degrees from say 5 or 6... But if you hold tight, the boat will accellerate and come out flat and moving fast... I've re-designed the sails with a larger roach, full battons, and kevlar...The new main has NO reef points to compromise the shape and has been flown in winds above 25 knots..
