Does anyone have a photo of their Catalina 22 (Swing Keel) on a trailer.

I am buying a Cat 22 and am trying to get an idea how the trailer / rollers should be set up allowing for the swing keel.

All input appreciated.

Thanks,

try these.

My trailer is 100% bunks, no rollers. the few points I can share are these:

1. Provide a support for the keel to rest on during transport.
2. It is nice to have the boat sitting a little higher, like 2-3 inches or so, such that the keel will swing down to rest on its support, exposing the cable and attachment point. It makes for super-easy inspection and replacement of the cable when necessary. just remember NOT to transport with teh keel fully retracted! It is hard on the boat.
3. While I do not have one, a wide bow roller or other support forward will help lift the boat into a proper angle in line with the trailer while launching and retrieving. The rotation of the boat on the trailer when pulling out at a steep ramp is substantial. Your bow eye moves a lot with respect to the trailer without some sort of forward support.

Thanks for the quick response.

Your photo's and comments are exactly what I was looking for.

I am considering buying an EZ Loader trailer that now has rollers but must be modified to support the keel.

Thanks again.

I know a lot of people that have C22s on trailers and have never seen one on a trailer with rollers.

Like the original post I am purchasing my first Catalina 22 soon and need to fit it on a trailer. I'm going to weld 4 posts to support the bunks. Can you give me a general idea how tall the bunk supports are? That would be a big help.

Thanks,

Joe

How far apart are the supports on your trailer?
What is the height difference from the lowest point of the trailer crossmember to the top of the bunk?
(I'm trying to figure out how long to make supports on my trailer for my Catalina 22, and my trailer looks a lot like yours.) Advice is appreciated!

1)These aren't from my trailer. They are from other online sources.

On my trailer the cross members have a dip in the middle on the aft section of the trailer. These two cross members include the one that goes below the keel at the mid point and also the one in the very back. Because the boat has the rounded sides, the height is important. You want the keel in the up position an bit above a support for it so that it isn't swinging on the trailer. It should be lowered and resting on a roller. My supports are adjustable on the cross members as each of the 8 supports are held on with two 1/4" U bolts. So, they can be moved inboard or outboard a bit as well as up or down. Although, I'm not totally trusting of these U bolts, it has yet to fail. I'm tempted to brace up my supports to the bunks with a second support on each side so that there are two struts going up to the bunk in an inverted V fashion.
