I have a Catalina 22, #5026. When we first bought it, we noticed the keel "banging" when we were in still air and hit some boat waves. I raised and lowered the keel once and the bonking went away. I'm still a little worried though; on such an old boat, what are the chances of the keel "falling off"? To my knowledge, the keel pin, etc. have not been replaced. Any insight would be welcome! Needs attention

I recently purchased a C22 #3275. The previous owner noted the problem of the keel making a clunking sound. She checked over the parts, replaced the keel pin and added spacers. The spacers between the keel and the keel trunk eliminated the noise. Catalina Direct has a manual/catalogue that discusses this problem and lists replacement parts to address these concerns. I hope this is helpful. Best of luck and Happy New Year.

Keel Klunk

Van, I also have and older C22 and worried about the keel and its attachment. I paid the dealer where I bought her to hoist her to let me look over the keel. I must admit I was a little paranoid after reading about keel cables breaking and the keel falling off. I did find a very big problem. The keel cable was routed wrong and instead of riding on the pully ball, it was sawing the boat in half!!!! It was well worth the money, for me at least, to inspect the keel and hardware. The folks at Catalina Direct are great and the catalog on the C22 is a wealth of info, but make sure your order is worth the price of the shipping they charge. I got burned once on a small order that showed up in an envelope with a $0.77 stamp and was charged $7.00! Live and learn, next time my order will be larger!!! Have Fun!!!
