Catalina 22 Keel "Banging"

I have a new (old) 1981 Catalina 22 and have noticed that the swing keel tends to bang side-to-side sometimes. I figure I can repair it permanently once it's out of the water, but was wondering if there is a "quick-fix" for the rest of the season. I've considered trying to wedge some material in there, realizing this will prevent me from raising and lowering it for the rest of the season. I'm new to the website, so sorry if this has been asked recently. Any suggestions for getting me through the rest of the summer without either (1) having to take it out of the water or (2) damaging the boat -- I'm assuming that this banging can't be good for it. Thanks!

Keel Lock Bolt

Ray, Have you tried tighting the Keel Lock Bolt located in the locker under the front dinette seat? Sometimes that will solve the problem if there is not too much play in the keel. Depending on the cause there are several permenant fixes that you should be able to find in the archives. Barry C-22 1909 Brighteyes

Yes, tried tightening keel lock bolt

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I have actually tried that. I see the link for the archives and will try that. Thanks for the response, and for pointing a "newbie" in the right direction. It is very much appreciated.

In the water

Ray, Do you keep the boat in the water or on the trailer? Barry

On a mooring

Yeah we're in the water till like October, the keel bolt wont do anything. i dove down there and put some socks in. This muffled the bang and i plan on pulling them back out each sail.
