I use 3/8" Sta-Set X approximately 60 feet...

I actually cut it in half to make two 30 foot sections and spliced both lines to a snap shackle. Many sailors do not recommend this method because a loose genoa could cause serious injury. As a preventative, I also rigged a simple aft-led downhaul so I could lower the headsail before anyone went forward. No problems yet... You can also use 5/16" for the sheet, but I would not go any smaller than that.

Jib Sheet

Hi, I recently replaced the jib sheets on a Cat 22 that I bought this spring. I used 50' of 5/16", cut into 2 25' pieces. Attached a snap shackle to the end of each with a bowline. Chuck K.

MIne Measured ...

Chip: I measured mine for you. It was about 63 feet long, and about 7/16 in diameter. This diameter is probably more than necessary for strength, but for the feel in your hands of the bigger diameter is nice. Mine is the original sheet that came with my boat, and line has improved greatly in the last 20 years, so a lesser diameter may be acceptable. A previous response mentioned Sta-Set-X. I don't have my catalog here, but I know I buy Stay-Set lines from West Marine, and some are for sheets, and some for halyards. Buy what they recommend. I did, however, buy one one time that was too stiff, and unacceptable for a halyard, and had to return it. Aldo
