Catalina 22 (1989 ) Forward Hatch

HELP!I have a Catalina 22 swing keel ( 1989 ) and the forward hatch glass is cracked around the handles. I decided to replace the hatch and got a replacement part number (Bomar 1094-AX ) from Catalina Yachts. However, when it arrived it turns out it's about 1/4' too small around and it's just small enough that I can't align the screwholes to get all of them over the fibreglass/wood frame. I spoke to Bomar and they say this is the largest trapezoidal hatch they make. Any ideas?ThanksMark Atkinson

Try larger from different mfg

Mark -Sorry to hear about the hatch size problems. Since Catalina spec'd and sent you the replacement hatch, hopefully they will take it back and return your money. If Bomar doesn't make a larger hatch, perhaps you could get a larger hatch from Lewmar (or anyone else) and cut out a bigger hole to fit. This might be easier than trying to make a small hatch fit into a larger hole. Think of it as an upgrade by adding more light inside! All you need is a jigsaw, file and sealant. Oh yeah, and make sure you measure at least twice before you start cutting!Best of luck,Trevor

Catalina Direct?

you said you got the hatch cover from Catalina Yachts -- the factory. Catalina Direct may have a better selection.....they've always helped me.Good LuckBrad on the Willy T
