22' boats?? Wing or fin keel, Cat 22,Capri 22,Tall rig, Mk2,sloop rig: Is there enough difference in performance or speed in these different models to even talk about it. It the tall rig or sloop rig something you buy to upgrade an existing boat. Is there info to learn what the actual differences are between these models.

Is there a difference?

Well, it depends on what you're doing with your boat. Daysailing? Probably not enough of a difference to worry about. Racing? Sure - your fixed keels are going to point higher, tall rigs give you more sail area, etc, etc. You might check out the home page of this site & look at the page called "Boat Specs". That will give you the different specs for different boats for comparison. LaDonna

no tall rig

The tall rig option wasn't offered on the 3 models you mentioned, so the only factor becomes the keel: Swing keel, wing keel, or water ballast. All 3 have pros and cons. The swing keels and WBs are easier to launch, and draw less water, so are probably a better choice for cruising, all things being equal. The wing keel might be better for racing, but its a matter of preference.

22' Catalina Boats

The Capri 22 is a different boat than the Catalina 22. The Capri 22 can have a tall rig and or a wing keel. No swings were offered on the Capri 22. The Capri 22 is lighter with more sail than the Catalina 22. The Catalina 22's all have the same rig. But depending on years could have a wing, swing, or fin keel. Wings were not produced until after 85 I think. A MK11 is a Catalina 22 that is the latest style. It has an in creased beam above waterline and is a different looking boat than earlier Catalina 22's Gary
