Thanks for the responses on the purchase question. I have looked at ads and NADA, it does not seem like the steal of the century, but a good deal none the less. When I was on the boat over the Thanksgiving, I noticed that it leaked freshwater into the bilge. It seemed to run down the VHF and Mast wires and the bottom of the mast post was slightly wet. It had rained hard that day. Is this a common problem? Any other must check items on the boat. I will get a survey, but you guys know the boat better. Also, anyone know who has the best finance rates?

There should be little leaking through the mast

The older catalina 30 had just the wires going through a hole in the deck with basically silicone sealing them. Works but not the best solution. The newer ones have a short piece of PVC pipe glued to the deck and the wires go through this. In theory little water will run down the wires and through this small pipe into the compression post. Being me I would likely use some sealer to seal that pipe as well. Leaking water can cause rotting compression post problems and should be checked. If this water leak is severe enough you may have to pull the mast to inspect what is really going on. If it is not just coming down the wires then any waves you take will come in also. I guess you can hit the base of the mast with a hose and see what happens. Richard
