What roller furler system is recommended for a 1980 C-25 SR/SK? I have very competitive prices between a CDI FF4 with ball bearing upgrade and the Schaefer CF500 Snapfurl. Since they are so close in price I am interested in
1. Ease of installation
2. Ease of operation
3. Reliability
4. Product support (warranty, guarantee, parts support)
5. Would you buy again

Thanks,

Mike

My choice would be the Alado roller furler.

I installed one on my C&C 24 and couldn't have been happier. We installed it during the winter, while on the hard and the mast up. It was very easy and the system worked great with no problems for two years, when we sold the boat. The new owner kept the boat at the same marina for two more years and he had no problems with it either.

Some of the things I liked better than the others that you mentioned were as follows:
  1. Less money - the one that would fit your boat would be $780
  2. Metal foils instead of plastic
  3. The foils are in 5' lengths and go together in an extremely sturdy way. The installation was way easier than the other options.
  4. Easy installation, it took us less than 4 hours to install and we did it in a snow and sleet storm.
  5. The foils have two tracks that would allow for dual headsails to fly for wing on wing with the mainsail down.
I would not hesitate to buy another one. I have no dog in this hunt, just really liked the product.

I second Alado as JK recommends for the same reasons. I put it on my C27 and it wasn't difficult. I like the way each half foil overlaps with the other which makes for an easy install.

I've got a ProFurl; not cheap, but it's been flawless...

Thanks to all. Several weeks ago we installed a CDI FF4 with ball bearing upgrade and a 135 North sail. Works great.
