I have a 1980 cat 25 that has a noticeable lean to port. It's had it since purchased about a year ago. I thought when the outboard was removed for the winter it would straighten out, but it didn't change a thing. No change when all tanks were pumped out during winterizing either. Thanks for any insight into this matter.

Where are your batteries located? My Catalina 310 has the batteries, the holding tank, and the cockpit storage locker all on the port side, and she had a noticable list to port. Adding ballast under the starboard settee seems to have righted her quite a bit. Might be worth a try for you.

A buddy of mine has a similar port lean. Catalina 25 swing keel. I am unsure of the year. Whatver it is causing the lean, it seems to be common!

I will share with him that there is another out there, and maybe we can share solutions!

Most Catalinas seem to have a slight list to one side or another. It is due to the location of the heavy interior stuff (the Galley, batteries, etc). Some people have gone to the extreme of glassing lead weights on the high side to correct for this list. Most people simply stack their gear on the high side, and don't worry about it (as long as it is only a few degrees.)

The primary disadvantages of this list are that the boat might sail a little higher and / or faster on one tack than on the other, and your boot stripe on the low side might get more fouled (due to being either closer to the water or possibly partially submerged) than the other side.

Structurally, the slight list is nothing to worry about.
