Was wondering if anyone has experience with either fin or wing keel....what are the sailing differences? How about if I want to use as a trailer sailer....is it possible? which one is better? Or would a swing keel be the way to go?

Fin or Wing??

Hi Gene, In general, the wing keel version is easier to launch and retrieve at a launch ramp. The wing keel only needs a couple inches more than a swing and is a much simpler and lower maintenance keel version compared to the swing. In fact, there have been many conversions from swing keel to wing keel by owners purchasing a wing keel conversion kit from Catalina. If though you are only launching in the spring and retrieving in the fall (instead of every weekend), you will probably prefer the sailing qualities of the fin keel version. The fin keel version has the heaviest keel and get the weight farther down than the wing. This means that the fin keel boats tend to not heel over as far or as abruptly in wind gusts by comparison. You can carry more sail (bigger jibs and not reef as soon) because of the greater stability. And, the crew generally likes the stable ride. Visit the C25/C250 National Association website <http://www.catalina25-250.org/>. There is a very active message board forum with lots of Q
