I know a discussion in oil preferences can be as volatile as a discussion in politics or religion so we don't need to go there.

I change my own oil in all my cars, trucks, tractors, lawn equipment and boats and have always used Castrol. Although zerk fittings seem to be phased out of car chassis parts, I use Castrol grease on anything that has a fitting or requires it.

I've been using Castrol (dino) oil products since my 1st car at the age of 14 and although Castrol doesn't seem to be as popular as other brands I will continue to use them. Castrol MHP for marine applications is not readily available in anything less then 55gals but Castrol Tection Extra 15w40 is so that's what I use in my Yanmar.:stirthepot:

Just wanted to know if anyone else uses the same? :D

I use straight SAE 30 mfg by Shell (Rotella) Mobil, or Kendal. What ever is most easily available and at a price advantage. Usually Rotella is the most available in my area. I just bought 3 gallons for $12/gal at the Chinese Emporium- Wal Mart.

Probably ok in your engine but if your spec on your tranny is 30 which is common, it is recommended because 15Ws and the synthetics have detergents which cause foaming.

Not good for your tranny

Um, I haven't changed out the transmission fluid yet but thought I saw something about ATF and I thought the type was "F" not Dextron II but can't remember.

I believe it varies depending on the transmission. Some take 30 wt oil others transmission fluid.

RG, you might want to consider these:

1. Determine what transmission you have. Some take oil, some take transmission fluid.

2. ATF and Dexron (whatever II, III, IV, IXLLICMCVVIII, whatever) are two DIFFERENT materials an dhsould NEVER be mixed.

Most Universals use ATF or Dexron, Yanmars use oil.
