Cast Iron keels, what to do to stop it rusting

I have a cast iron keel on my 345. I bought it in Long Island and now in the great lakes but heading south on it next year. Does anyone know how to prep the keel and keep it from rusting? I followed the Interprotect instructions but it was rusting before the paint dried, This year I will sand blast it bare and box it in and keep it warm and get it good and dry. Does oanyone know what will be the best way to treat and prep it for bottom paint when spring comes???

Our shop is doing this now

Hey Ken, we are having our boat hauled this week and they are doing bottom paint. After sanding they found that previous owner just painted over the keel after it had hit bottom and it had a small amount of rust on it. for $400 more they would fix itl and he explained the process but I missed the steps, I'll post them here when I find the details.

blast or powersand it clean, primer it, then epoxy, then bottom paint.
