Going to sand blast my 30' Hunters cast iron keel this spring. I've looked into Interlux 2000 and Petits 4700. I'm also thinging Petits steel and iron primer first. Any suggestions out ther on a very successful coating system.

In my previous boat, used the POR15 system on the cast iron keel with great results. No traces of rust after 8 years. Just make sure you follow the instructions and wear gloves. If you don't and get some on your hands make sre you like the color, it will take a while to come off.

I used the POR15 system on my H23 keel. Decent, but I do have some rust spots and blisters after a few seasons (some appeared after season 1). I am in a fresh water lake. I used an angle grinder and coarse wire brush plus grinder wheel, not sand blasting. I did use their entire system, cleaner and prep, and followed directions as best I could. The success is probably somewhat sensitive to your skill, and it may truly require sand blasting. Though, they claim that a bit of non-scaly rust is no problem, as the material is supposed to convert the rust and bond to it.

Hello,
My boat was soda blasted yesterday, and the keel was to be immediately coated with a chemical to stop oxidation. I am to apply a barrier coat, then paint with epoxy bottom paint. I hope it works. This is my plan unless others can advise a better.
