Hunter 28.5 cedar creek lake, tx
We just bought a new to us Hunter 28.5 that also came with a Carry-on Air unit. The hatch bag is missing but the unit blows great cold air (fixed a switch). I priced the hatch bag and was surprised that it sales for $150. I figured I could better spend that money on the boat and wondered if anyone ever made one out of a tarp material. Not cheap here but cannot see $150 for the bag. Ant ideas are welcome.

Sunbrella...makes good condome

..if I were going to make a new cover for the a-c unit I'd use Sunbrella and match myBimini-sailcover-etc..And by using a good fabric you'll get alot of use from it.Cheap tarp stuff will look like an add on..the Sunbrella will improve the look of the boat and (I'd think) resale as well. Good Luck >> David

Me too

I found one that someone threw out! It blows plenty of cold but, it is also missing the cover. If anyone has a picture of what it looks like with the bag I would love to make a cover. My Brothers sewing machine loves to work with sunbrella. Thanks

Just think about the benefit.

To have the comfort of A/C for $150 is not bad. The hood serves a few purposes; it creates a tent over the hatch, resists heating from the sun and prevents rain water from entering the hatch. Unless you have special sewing skills I would not go for the trouble of trying to make one. It seems you bought the boat and the carry-on unit came as a freeby; just consider the $150 as your cost for A/C. I had one of them carry-on units years ago and the hood was an integral part of it working efficiently and not allowing rain in the cabin.
