Catalina 27- 1984 Grapevine
I will be in need of AC in my Catalina27 soon. I already have at least 6 thru hull fittings and don't really want any more holes in my boat to accommodate the built in units, so what about the carryons? I'm leaning toward the Cruisair 5000, if I can find one, or a small btu portable to keep inside the boat. Any suggestions or ideas where I can find a used unit. I plan to install a 3 battery dedicated bank to run it for a few hours while we are out on the water. One company actually sells a little 1000btu unit that only uses 250 watts, but will that really cool a C27?

American Comfort sells a little unit designed for office cubicles, probably wouldn't cut Texas heat even in little cabin. The unit shows online for $218

Newport Newport 28 MKII Jacksonville, FL
I have the Cruiseair that fits in an overhead hatch. Does a good job on my Newport 28 and really helps with the humidity. Above 95 degrees, it will not hold the cabin temp below 80, but works great in the evenings. I think it weighs about 60lbs, so dragging up from the cabin is a chore and it takes up a lot of space. I find it easier to put it in a dock cart and take it home than to wrestle it up and down the companionway by myself. I see them for sale often for $250-400.00, used. I paid $250 for mine and it was 12 months old.
