Been there yet?

Have you been there yet? I say that because on our very first charter, the charter company (Horizon) recommended "Cruisers Guide to the Virgin Islands". The will ship it to you when you charter with them. It was great for the first time charters but I would want it for a long term cruise. You can buy it through "Lats & Atts" ship store. (link below) For your land based activities you should get Fodors books too. Also, I just found the link below that looks good too http://www.onlinecruisingguide.com/

First Book...

should be "Gentleman's Guide to Passages South" by VanSant...the best book on how to make your way down south. Then the Pavlidas books on the Bahamas/Turks & Caicos/DR and PR are excellent. For the windwards and Leeewards, the Doyle guides are wonderful. For on line stuff...suggest you start with the Carribbean Compass and "the Boca" nwspapers...just google them and you'll have lots of reading pleasure!

Guides

See cruisingguides.com The individual volumes, e.g., Virgin Is., Windward Is., Leeward Is, etc. are the standard, IMHO, for "local" knowledge. For something more macroscopic, I recommend Les Weatheritt's "Caribbean Passagemaking". I met Les at the Annapolis show last October at his seminar on Atlantic crossings. A really nice guy and very knowledgable. Also, see any of Don Street's cruising guides. Enjoy! Dave S/V Pas de Deux Catana 471-44
