We head to the coast on Friday at about noon. I am hopeful to score a fish cleaning station for the boat for $50 on the way. <crosses fingers> We plan to sail from Carrabelle to Apalachicola and then motor to White City for the night. Come down the ditch nd sail from Port St. Joe to Panama City and spend a night in the Panama City Marina for a good clean up. Then sail to Destin and stay a few nights. Back to the Panama City Marina so we can get a Thanksgiving dinner in PC. Then make our way back to White City or Apalachicola for the night and head back to Carrabelle.

We are doing all the prep work for provisioning now. I really love each part of a cruise. I will post some crappy cell phone pics and brief things pecked from my phone along the way.

You lucky stiff! what an adventure! I'm green with envy. I just tried to get on the Panama Marina Live Web Cam site and it won't come up. I could have probably seen you walking on the dock and took your picture and posted it on this site for you. The camera must be down right now. I was always able to control the camera on that site and see the people in their boats at the slips in real time. Have a great time and good luck with the fishing.

The transient slips are right next to the club house/fuel dock at Panama City Marinia. I did not know they had a webcam there. I will have to check it out. You need to either trailer down that 222 or come on down and sail with us Joe.

They have a live web cam that you can control. It can be zoomed in or out and moved around. I've been using this cam for a couple of years now. One of my friends took a ride down there from a small town in Alabama one day with his wife. He called me on his cell phone when he got down to the dock and I was able to find them with the web cam and save the target. I later sent it back to them in an email.

Boy, I wish I could go down there and sail that area Dave. If I had a lot of money I'd like to take the ICW trip. At my age I'd probably croak by the time I got down there.:D

Joe,

I do not have time, check out these cameras and see if any are working:

You will probably croak for not going there. You have a trailer, get a spare tire, spare wheel bearing and rent a tow vehicle and go south before you do croak...

Alternatively tow your boat to the Delaware and Chessie Canal and sail down.

You could sail all the way, I did see a 23 foot boat with outboard going south from Canada on my trip.

Here is croaker:

Ed,
Thank you for those live web cam links. They worked great. The Panama Marina live Cam is down right now.
I'm afraid that my long distance traveling days are over. Outside of reaching "Geezerdom", I've developed a health issue that will prevent me from going on any trips. I'm content to sail the bays up here in the summer months and use my kayak on mild days in the winter months. I really can't kick. The winter months give me plenty of time to catch up on some reading and reflect on the things I did over the summer on my boat, and the changes that I'm going to make on it next season.
Many thanks,
Joe

We delayed the start of our journey a day due to snotty weather. I decided watching college football on the boat at the marina while several rain fronts moved through was better than cold rain in the cockpit. We made good time today and had a wonderful day of sailing, motor sailing, and motoring up the ICW for a good dock for the evening. Ivy enjoying some brie and ham on sun dried tomato crackers as we cross lake wimico. Tomorrow we sail to Panama City.

A wonderful night at White City boating facility. The free electric allows the fridge to refreeze the water bottles solid. We are headed down the Port St Joe ditch so we can raise our sails and sail past Mexico Beach and on to Panama City. We will be staying at the Panama City Marina tonight Joe. I will post when we pull into the slip.

Dave,
I can't get the Panama Marina Live Web Cam to work. I don't know if it is down or whether it has to do with Java on my end. Here's the link. Maybe someone can try it and find out if it is working.

Mechanical Mike LIED today. He said 1-2 foot. Yeahhhhhhh, it was 2 with 4 footers about every three minutes and very confused direction. The chop was killer too. We sailed for awhile but the swells were slapping the sails hard. My wife asked to motor through it. We traveled 53 miles and never saw another boat of any kind. My wife got sea sick, my son got sea sick, even the salty dog chummed on the way. I had a blast. To make the wife happy we will take the ICW back to Panama City. That is cool with me as I have never done that section.

Approaching Destin.....there were waves braeking in the channel coming past the break wall. The sunset cruises turned around. Wimps!

We spent the night at Shalimar Marina. Very nice staff. We recieved a car to use which was very handy to go to dinner. resupply, and grab some deals from West Marine. I know a lot of people complain about the prices at West Marine, but I have had a great experience at every store I have been to. We got up this morning used the car to grab some Sonic and sailed over to Destin Harbor. We spent quite a few hours at Harbortown Marina Walk. I had planed to sail to our night anchorage at Santa Rosa Beach but we spent too much time at Destin Harbor. We mad great time motor sailing using the jib. We average 5.8 knots and went as high as 7 knots. We are spending the night in a cove with 7 other sailboats, a place called Hogtown Bayou. There are two sailboats that did not chance the skinny water to get in the bayou and they are having a serious rodeo out on the un protected water. It is really blowing tonight on the bay. Tommorow we take the ICW back to Panama City.

I am sorry Keith, I completely missed your post. We usually have the 150 on, but a day like today with the wind howling it was the standard jib. If it is a long run on a day like today, I will go forward and get the 150 on for 6 or 7 knots. We were on a reach all day today though.

We are on the homeward part of the Joe. Ivy has talked about making the Gulf crossing from Carrabelle to Tampa, now I have a friend looking to do it with us over spring break. We are currently on the ICW from Panama City to White City. We have a friend meeting us in Appalachicola tomorrow aboard his sailboat to sail back home.

This is the life for us!

We got in after dark last night to our slip. We had some friends meet us at the marina and we gladly accepted their offer to take us to dinner. After being on the boat for eight days and completely exhausted, the table at the restaurant kept moving side to side for both my wife and me. Packed out and cleaned the boat this morning and sadly we are land lubbers again. Cannot wait for spring break for our next cruise, but there will be local weekend trips until then. It may take a week to put togther, but I post a link to some video of the trip.
