I went to a small boat show at the mall last weekend. No sailboats, just powerboats of various types. One thing that I noticed... they all have carpet. Even the cheapest bass boat had carpet with snaps so you could remove it for cleaning I suppose. It made me think... I've never seen carpet on a sailboat! Is carpet on a sailboat some kind of taboo? Would carpet look weird on a sailboat? Even below, how many have you seen with carpet? Very strange. It made me wonder what carpet would look like in my H170, maybe a nice light gray or silver color. Snapped in so it could be removed for cleaning. I know, I'm crazy, I said it, you can repeat it. Just be kind. JerryA

Catalina

I currently own a catalina 30, and it was an option with the boat to get carpet. Many people have carpet in their catalinas. The question I would have, if you added carpet would you be covering nice wood floors? I know with my dad's tartan, and our family's pearson, you would never want to cover the wood.

Carpet

I have a Daysailor, and years ago put carpet in the cuddy cabin to protect the flooring from equipment, oars, etc being dropped, taken in and out, etc.Don't think I would want it in the cockpit area due to water splashing in,"wet humans"getting in after swimming, etc. I also sail a Hunter 25 and carpet down below is wonderful....deadens sound, feels good in winter, etc.Check carpet installers for free scraps.

Getting Wet?

bowtrash - You wrote "Don't think I would want it in the cockpit area due to water splashing in,"wet humans"getting in after swimming, etc." I would have to say that makes logical sense. I've never had a bass boat or a ski boat, but I'd have to imagine they get wet from people climbing back on board after skiing or when hauling in a big bass (or small ones like I catch). So if we're thinking so logically, then why do you think everyone else has carpet? Doesn't it seem strange? If my boat had nice wood floors, I wouldn't want to hide that either. I'm a hardwood floor kind of guy when it comes to houses too. So if carpet is an option in a sailboat, is it the lower cost option when compared to wood? See now if it weren't winter, I could be sailing instead of thinking so much. Where's my Easy button? JerryA
