Hi,
Looking for suggestions!!! Our Hunter356 2002 came with custom fit area carpets that were made for interior of boat to protect teak floors..We always lift them to check bilge etc and have now found some of the backing of the carpet is stuck to flooring..Any ideas on how to remove this back from floor without ruining them...Any and all suggestions would be really appreciated!! We have taken the area rugs out, now just need to remove these areas of backing stuck.

Thank you,
Lauri

you may have to use some soap and a soft scrub brush or even try a magic eraser or even use a bath towel on the tips of your finger and rub it off

Probably the best advice might be to carefully scrape the backing off the teak wood. Teak is an oily wood (hence the reason it is used in wet environments) and probably won't allow the backing to stick permanently. I refinish furniture for a living and sometimes the only answer is to physically remove things that adhere to wood rather than use any chemicals. After the scraping is complete use sandpaper as needed (work with the grain) then recoat with teak oil. No hard finish should be applied to teak. I use this scraper a lot and have had great results with it. Found it on amazon for less than $30.

Whatever you use you want to pull rather than push to control the amount of pressure used to remove the stuck backing.

Do Nothing...for now.

Wait until the weather drops below freezing in CT. The backing is likely heat sealed.

More than likely it will "release" a bit as the material contracts in the cold.

After a time below freezing, use a plastic (not metal) spackle knife to gently (did I mention gently) seperate the backing from the floor.

In the spring use mineral spirits to remove any residue.

Then...admire your handi-work.

I use ammonia to remove most gooey stuff from adhesives, but I miight be hesitant to use it on teak as it dissolves oils. It has also fogged clear poly on one occasion.
