I am in the process of purchasing a boat. I am looking at a 1995 Legend 35.5 as one of the possibilities. What can you tell me about the boat?

I don't own one and I should not be giving their owners a bigger head. But for what it is worth I think they are the best looking boats that Hunter ever made. Something about the lines that are as nice as anything out there.

The owners who read this will doubtless give you their full and unbiased opinions. Meanwhile you can go to "Boat Info" and read the reviews if you haven't already.

I owned a Hunter 1994 35.5 for five years and won "Boat of the Year" one year in our local club racers. The 35.5 is a fast boat and is fun to sail. While it has a backstay it really is a B&R rig--a very large main and a seven eighth rig jib. My boat has a bulb keel with wings so we didn't point very well but we were fast, especially slightly off direct downwind. We put on a 150 genoa and that was a mistake--it didn't make us any faster and was harder to tack. One afternoon we raced in 40 knts of wind and were in complete control all the way--with only three crew. Won that race.

The interior is pretty standard with the queen size berth under the cockpit. My wife thought it a little tight for us old folks for getting in and out.

The reason we traded her in was that one of my main racing crew died suddenly and I lost my need to go racing. That and we also began to have problems finding CNG. I suspect someone with more skills then I have could change that to propane. I also suspect by now most of the aluminum tankage will be in need of replacement.

We raced and cruised the 35.5 for five years and it still remains one of my favorite boats. We traded it in on a Hunter 380--today we are enjoying a Hunter 27 (downsizing).

I had a 1987 35 It was a great boat. We traded in on a 1997 376 , and enjoy all the extra, things we aded , that the 35 did not have. The 35 was a great sailing boat

Yeah, what Ed said...read the 54 reviews in "Boat Info." dropdown. May need to register on site to access, but tons of info. there. I've owned a '94 35.5 for almost 5 years now and love it. Lots of room, comfort, speed, style, bullet proof Yanmar 3 cyl. One of the most sought after, used Hunter models in its class.
