Looking into cockpit cushions for our 222 and/or a helmseat or two....any ideas?
Capt. Tom,
You and I have the same model boat, with one possible exception which is a full stern rail. If your 222 has one, then your boat is one of 20 that the O'Day company built that had that change. Actually, the top part of my stern rail that resembles a hoop, is something that I had welded up for a mast support system, but the rest of the rail was stock from the factory. I received an email from a girl in Columbus OH who has a full stern rail on her 1988 OD 222. With that said; I've always found that the seats in the cockpit are very comfortable without a cushion, but when I sail, I always lean back against the stern rail and a regular square flotation type cushion is needed for my back. Check out the picture below. Penelope even likes it.

I suppose it would be nice to have the whole cockpit deck out with cushions all the way around, but these boats are small and the extra work of storing and handling these cushions wouldn't really appeal to me. They do have these backrest type of seats that you can buy in marine stores that are pretty comfortable. Some members of our yacht club bought them and they seem pretty happy with them. They're pretty good in that, they don't take up much storage space.
