Capri 22 vs. J-22

I had been looking for a J-22 but recently took a look at the new Capri 22. I notice the dimensions are very close (the Capri actually has a slightly larger sail area and LWL). I've been watching on this site for reviews of the new Capri 22 (redesign for 2001) but nothing posted yet. Can anyone offer suggestions on comparisons between these two boats from a performance perspective?Many thanks,Tom

J-22

If the Capri 22 is anything like the Catalina 22 then the J-22 is a much better performing boat. Very fast and responsive, but not very comfortable below. It is really built for racing and daysailing. I like speed and handling; I would therefore go for the J-22.

c22 vs j 22

I have not seen the new capri 22 but the capri line are typically performance oriented. The C22 (catalina) is a pocket cruiser.Check the PHRF ratings of the j22 and the Capri 22 to get some relative idea of they they fair to each other.

J 22 is fantastic

The J22 is a superb boat. I own a Catallina 380 and I am very pleased with catalina boats but the J22 is a gem. I crused with my three then small chlidren for a month on it and I raced it very successfully in the Atlantic City Race week 1st overall. I cannot imagine a better 22ft boat unless the keel is a problem.
