or, Stanchion my Frustration.... Does anyone happen to know (because I don't have the energy to try Catalina again) what the actual diameter of the stanchions (bow pulpit and stern) are on the Capri 22? I bought a bow pulpit clamp for a flag that was to fit on 7/8 to 1 inch diameters, and it was too small, and also had gotten fender holders for the port & starboard stanchions (at the boat show in the winter), and found I had the same problem. I see there are products for 1 1/8" or 1 1/4" sizes, but I'd hate to get it wrong again with an inaccurate measurement, and wondered if anyone knew exactly. Much appreciated, Susan

a measured response

Yes (!!!!!!) I do have a ruler at home, thanks for checking. And I had one with me, and since both sections are curved, and the margin of error for measurements in 1/8ths can possibly lead me to the wrong size again, and since the boat is in the marina 1-1/2 hours from my house, I thought that maybe someone might just know the exact measurement from experience, so I asked. Is that okay??

Checked with some others from another BB

and so far the response has been.. "I think it should be around 1 inch". Maybe you could try posting the question on "The Trailer Sailor" board. Give the link below a shot. Very informative place to go for answers for questions such as yours. Just don't ask something political.....hahaha. If you get something too big, you can always wrap something around the pulpit, such as rigging tape, to take up the slack. But, you probably already knew that. good luck....and fair winds...........

Inching along

Thanks for the help Tom. I used the card trick that Helm products suggested on their web page (cutting slits in a business card and putting it over the section of rail). I found it weird that the sections measured 1 inch and the items I bought were supposed to fit 7/8" to 1" and they just don't fit. The problem with the bow pulpit is that it has that vertical stanchion at the center, and you have to mount to the right or left of it, and the curve gets in the way. Helm has a very narrow mount compared to West's, so I'll give that one a try. The fender grips that I got at the Philly boat show that don't fit at the printed size of 1" though, is more annoying. My husband dropped at least 3 bolts in the water because they wouldn't close the gap. Arrgh!
