Need feedback on that diesel 8 hp diesel that came as part of the original package deal. In your opinion is it enough to maneuver such boat...
Thx in advance

I imagine you are talking about a Yanmar 1GM in that boat. It will be adequate assuming it is running properly. I had a 1GM in my Starwind 27, which should be a little lighter than your long-keel boat. It was fine until I replaced it. If you are considering a purchase, I would run the engine under load to see if your RPM comes up properly. When I bought the boat (not knowing any better) mine came up to 3600 RPM in neutral but just under 2600 RPM underway. It should have been coming up to 3200 or better. This suggests it was over-propped, which eventually led to troubles. I eventually replaced it with a Yanmar 2YM15 for a variety of reasons, which has made a significant improvement. If you really like the boat & the engine is a bit of a problem (not unheard of for a 40-year old engine), it's not an insurmountable problem or expense to replace the engine. Most folks will say that it's not worth it to replace an engine in an old boat, but those Cape Dory's are a special case worth having, I think.
