Just inhertited one of these and simply can't get the inner two pole to loosen and extend. Have tried washing with DI water, soaking in vinegar and twisting the heck out of it with tro pipe wrienches with no luck at all. Pulled out the end pieces trying to free it up. Any suggestions ?

I have a brand new one and it has the same problem. Additionally the spring-loaded release on one end is constantly freezing up and becoming unusable. Lots of wd40 helps, but still. I think they are not making them like they used to. And they're not inexpensive... Sort of a drag...

Try soaking it in hot water and then tap all around it lightly with a rubber mallet.

I would spray some PB Blaster on it, wait a few hours, spray some more and the try moving it.

It sounds like you have the twist-lock? If it is fully extended or completely closed, you could cut the thing, get a twist-lock rebuild kit, and start anew.

Thanks everyone - yes - it's the twist lock type and I tried - Hot water, 1 Can of PB blaster, broke two rubber twisting tools, rivited the endpiece on, tried using that to pull it a part, and next step is to put a chain on each end and pull it apart with wild horses. Can't cut it because it is not extended - the two tubes are stick inside each other - time to give up and move on ?

Try hotter heat

Try hotter heat, like torch with flame spreader. Spray more PB blaster.

Try something very thin like strait pin and small hammer to tap in length wise in one spot to get the PB blaster into the frozen fitting.

Do you have bigger end off? Try pouring PB blaster inside around edges. Everytime you apply PB blaster wait an hour for it to work.
