Island Hunter

I have just purchased a 1994 Hunter 29.5. Aft of the cockpit there is a hatch beside the Boarding ladder that gives access to the Transom Shower and also the Exhaust outlet hose and sea cock. When underway this compartment is taking on water and the old owner fitted the area with an auto builge pump to empty the water from the area. The old owner said he could not find a leak and couldn`t explain the water. Mt thought were it may be coming from the Hull and Deck joint as this is under water when underway only. Has any one experienced a similar problem , regards David. ( Island Hunter )

29.5 leak

Hi i have a 29.5 that had water collect in the rear hatch. It seemed to occur over time and not necessarily underway. Hunter paid to have the boat hauled, they took off the rubrail, disconnected the hull deck joint, rebedded the joint, put in new bolts, and the leak still occured. I turns out the ladder bolts leaked and when it rains the cockpit drained out near the ladder bolts and the water accumulated quickly.I rebedded these and the water stopped collecting, If it truely happens when your underway, it may be worthwhile to rebed the rear hull deck joint also. good luck, love my boat(i bought it new).

Similar Leak

I had a similar leak when under power at the stern deck joint between the ladder. I found it with the help of some steering the boat under power while I went under the cockpit and than I was able to see the leak, mine was on my 290 hunter. It was still new and the dealer and hunter repaired it,they had to take it out of the water and remove the rub rail and spread the joint and reseal so make sure you know exactly where its leaking, maybe something else could be leaking. nick

The only problem

(BOB)name of our 1994 Hunter 29.5. I do not think of any way you could be taking on water while underway. If old owner fitted the area with an auto builge pump to empty the water from the area.Your thought about it coming from the Hull and Deck joint is a good one,and also hatch covers seals, all glass seals checked, reseal Ladder bolts, I have done all this and more, now it is down to a big towel after Rain. And we do not get alot of rain. If the (OLD) Owner sold the boat with a Pump WOW.. there are only a few ways water can come into that place,Check exaust, there is a drain for you propane tank ,check there as well. Good luck My guess is deck to hull.and the propane one was good as well. BOB= boy on board, babe on board, ect
