I have a badly oxidized 25' Hunter that needs some TLC. I just bought 3M Marine FiberGlass Restorer and Wax, but after doing some research I feel that PolyGlow is a much better product. Can you onyl buy PolyGlow on-line? I live in Michigan and did not find it on West Marines site. Any tips for severly oxidized hulls with PG? I get an excessive amount of chalk residue when rubbing the hull. Thanks!!

Just a cover up.

I suggest that you take a look at cleaning up the existing gelcoat first and foremost. You may want to try the Island Girl Pink to help remove this oxidation too. It is applied with synthetic wool. It is amazing what it does to the gelcoat. Depending on the real condition of the gelcoat, it may not shine like a new boat but at least you will get it down to virgin gelcoat and it will condition it. Then you can use any quality wax or some more of the I.G. products. If you do not like the results, you can go ahead with Poly Glow. Just remember that Poly-glow is basically floor wax. It can be a real bear to remove. Most (not all) users like the looks when it is new. There are many cases that it yellows and cracks/peals in time. I think that the Island Girl & Poly Glow or similar product is available on this website.

PoliGlow website

I have used PoliGlow on my last 2 boats, a 1981 H33 and 1990 H33.5. The results are great, giving the hull that "wet" look. Water will bead up for the entire season. Island Girl is not the same as PoliGlow. Prep is the secret to a new boat look. The starter kit comes with all materials needed to remove old wax and dirt before applying the PoliGlow. The first time applied, you use 5 to 6 coats of PoliGlow. From then on it is only maintenance with 1 to 2 coats a year. The product will not yellow unless it is allowed to wear off by itself after a few years, then it looks bad and will have to be entirely removed with the PoliGlow Prep. Visit their website at http://www.poliglowproducts.com/. It is available only on-line or by telephone (I believe).

poli glow

I have used both poli glow and ig, I was not happy with ig products , the poli glow was really good the first time , I would reapply annually , after three years something went wrong and I had a real mess, I use meguiars 3 step , first step is oxidation remover , second is polish and then wax, Dan Ulrich sells poli glow by phone he used to be a regular here , good luck Mike Bacome

Thanks!! - Still unclear about cleaning hull

Thanks for the replies! I was hoping it wouldn't turn into a PG vs. IG debate since I am sold on PG. My biggest question was for cleaning a severly oxidized hull (with minimal slight misc. marks) before application. I know the kit includes PolyPrep, but I think I will use some other cleaner (not wax or compound) before the PolyPrep - maybe softscrub on the hull? How good is the PolyPrep at doing a great job of cleaning slight marks, etc? Again - thanks!!

I Don't Think So...

Sure thing pay either (PolyGlow or NewGlass) of them $39.99 for $2.95 worth Johnson's Floor Wax. This is the stuff that your Mom used to use. I've seen and smelled them both, Johnson's Floor Wax. (I also checked the MSDS.) My "Boat-neighbor" talked to a commerical guy cleaning a boat to see what he was using to clean it. The guy told him Sno-bol it's a toilet cleaner. It's made by Arm & Hammer and it's 15% ACID. The guy cleaning the boat said it was the same stuff West Marine sells for 5x the price. I haven't tried any yet... but if you do I'd be careful. In fact I didn't even suggest it. Mike Steve D beat me To IT!! Good Eye Steve!
