I know that this group is about sailing...but boat people pay attention to all boats..and I've been searching for years so I thought I'd ask here...does anyone have a suggestion where I might look to try to find an old WW2 battleship or destroyer life boat on the west coast... preferably in california..??

United States Navy reserve fleets You might also google "US Navy mothball fleets locations" I have no knowledge of lifeboats related to these retired vessels.... but you might get some leads from people associated with the facilities. In California the mothballed and active reserve fleets are maintained in Suisun Bay in No. Cal..... good luck.
On the West Coast, you also have 1 Liberty ship and 1 or 2 Victory ships from World War 2. These ships are still active as operating museum ships and might be a source for you. I volunteer on the Liberty ship in Baltimore - the SS John W Brown and several years ago we donated elsewhere 2 or 3 extra lifeboats that we had

The military often has sales (auctions) on gear. Find the web site and cross your fingers. Shouldn't be too much competition for one of those.
Had I not had the good fortune to fall in with some pretty famous rock bands in the '60s, I always figured my fist cruiser would be built using one of those hulls. Good luck.

No....I've Google them up in the past...there's alot of converted life boats in europe...navy surplus from ww2...I saw one pic where a guy welded 2 of them together hung a keel on it and rigged it to sail....
