One of the bolts that held the Elbow Exhaust on the engine block fell into a black hole this morning. The 3GM30F Engine Parts Manual states that the Bolt is "Plated"

My question is can I use a Stainless Bolt as a replacement or is this going to introduce problems?

Thanks
Jon

The 3GM30F Engine Parts Manual states that the Bolt is "Plated"
This refers to the bolt being plated with either cadmium or zinc. This adds a fraction of a cent to the cost. If it says "marine", this multiplies the cost many times over. As Woodster says, head for any big box hardware store and get a replacement for pennies.

And for its cost stainless is surprisingly weak. The torque values for a grade 8 steel bolt are three times higher than the same size in 316 stainless. It aint all its cracked up to be.

I changed mine to M10(or is it M8?) 40mm & 60mm SS bolts. Applied anti-seize thread guard to thread. No problem whatsoever, though I should change the 40mm to a 50mm IMHO.
