Hi All,

I'm glad there's a catalina forum out there. My jib halyard got caught in my furler and damaged the forestay. I need to replace but I want to be sure if I remove my forestay for replacing my mast doesn't tumble over. The backstay and other lines are in place.... Can I do this safely? Thanks a bunch for any advice

Not sure about your boat but I have repaired forestays with no trouble at all. Even lost one racing and the mast stayed up.

Run the jib halyard down to the bow and tie it off tight if you are worried.

Thanks... Makes me feel better. Now to climb back up that tall mast! ;)

Sounds like a good idea. My jib halyard is shot too.. so the main halyard is all I have now :). Cheers
Sounds like you might consider replacing the halyard first..... use a messenger line tied to the old halyard, pull it through, then reave the new halyard with the messenger.

I use a 1" ratchet strap from the whisker pole loop on the mast to a front cleat to pull the mast forward after I loosen the back stay when un-stepping and stepping the mast while hooking up the forestay to the A frame.
