Of course it can. Given the right circumstances, just about any sailboat will roll over. Its not hardly likely in the normal day of sailing.

The first video, they put a very heavy weight hoisted up the mast to prove the stability of the boat, and did not capsize.

The second article tells you keel boats will most likley not capsize.

"and you’ll see that it’s very, very unlikely you’ll capsize in a keelboat"

The question should be not will it capsize but will it right itselt after. Most keel boats, if in tact, will come back up right side up.

I would say that the boat in your YOUTUBE did exactly what it should have done.

I would also say that they should have had a much smaller jib for those conditions.

Wasn't even close to a capsize. Have a look around 0:17 and he grabs the traveller and yanks over trying to force it over. 0:21 and the spreaders are nowhere near hitting the water. Got some water in the cockpit but not even close to capsize.

Each boat design has a righting moment designed into the hull for roll over. In other words, after a boat rolls over so far which is usually substantial, the boat will roll over.

Although you do not state which model 27, generally keel boats are a little more stable say a water ballast or swing keel. However, what you should be concerned with to prevent that is your sailing skills. For any 27, I have always said max heel 14-15 degrees as you will be able to handle the boat and it will sail faster. Do not forget the fact that you will scare the heck out of women and children who will chicken choke you or never ride again with you if you feel a lot of heeling is required which is not. Use of sail area and control are the keys depending on the wind speed and of course height of waves depending where you sail..

An old cliché says: You can't control the wind, but you can adjust your sails. Yes a sailboat can roll over. Crazy Dave has given you the key. The real key is within yourself, your knowledge and experience , knowing your boat and controlling the sail area, being smart enough to deal with the conditions or not go out if that is the case.

Uh, Ya thats not even close to a capsize, a broach at best with a very quick righting action. Capsizing means you are going to see the keel pointing skyward.
