E 27 Seaworthyness
I personally believe just about any craft can do any passage, on several conditions. I own and ericson 27 79' These boats are extremely suceptable to deck delam which can seriouslty compromise the intergrity of the rig.The E 27 is of good design but very few have been maintained to the point where i would bet my life on them.Is she in the condition to take heavy weather? you will want to be positive! Do you have the sail invantory necassary to make the passage in a reasonable amount of time? the E 27' is not a fast boat for long hauls avg. 4.5 -5.5 knts 6.5-7.0 max It's also a relativly light boat and does not keep her momentum in the rough stuff. It's also an easy boat to over burden with weight thereby reducing her ultimate stability. The original Atomic 4 comes with a totaly insuficient 60W charging system do have the power reserves you will need? at least 400 A.H. and it takes a long time to restore that!. Nothing pays like research and knowledge of your own skills as a sailor and real knowledge and truth about the vessel's abilities. Have fun and be carefull! plan!
