Are there any marking? Looks like either a relay or possibly a capacitor....

Nothing at all unfortunately - it's never been connected in the time I've had the boat but finally curiosity has the best of me!

If I was to offer a guess, I'd say that it is a connection for the station memory of a car stereo .. Hooked to bilge pump circuit because it would be always hot.

Kloudie You may just be bang on as when reading this I now vaguely remember disconnecting it from the old radio a few years back and capping it off!!!

Thank you!

It might be a small plastic box with a hinge on one side.
When you open it, it's $1000 bill all folded up by the PO, and a note saying "sorry for all the repairs"
Worth a look.

I think I might know what it is....

It looks like an antenna filter for the radio. Some car radios use them to block out ignition noise from the motor while boosting the antenna signal for FM. I'd just chuck it. Just a thought.
