Can anyone explain Conner Camp?

In Matt Rutherford's latest he says "To put it in some prospective – if Unalaska Bay was One Ton Depot then Recife was Conner Camp. Now it’s time to head for Cape Evans (The Chesapeake Bay)."
What is this referring to? I am guessing it's his hero Shackleton, but does he mean this was more crucial than the Unalaska resupply or less? Either way, thank goodness and CRAB and the generosity of y'all, he's on his way, in good spirits, in every sense. Pray he avoids collision for this last leg. Tom

One Ton Depot refers to a supply depot that the Scott expedition had installed on its ill fated trek to the South Pole. These were cashes of supplies set at regular intervals for use on the return from the pole. The expedition reached the Pole but Scott and the returning party perished, because they were unable to cover the last miles to that depot.
The reference to Conner Camp is to one of the first depots the expedition had installed, One of the depots closest to the ship. Some members of a returning support team were unable to continue past the depot. One member did and summoned help. Without help the support team would also have failed, just short of the home base.

Thanks, Craig. I think I get it. He made it through the ice of the North
West Passage. The first resupply in Unalaska Bay was like making it back to
One Ton Depot. Getting to Recife, close to completing his mission was like
making it back to Conner Camp. Now he is on the last leg back to Cape
Evans, his starting point. Thank you for clarifying. Still, I can't help
feeling it is not exactly the most auspicious of comparisons.

Great to see the new photos on his website. Lots of the weather in the
Pacific. Weather plays well with us English. Even when it looks like a
thirty foot, very angry, wall of water coming straight for him. (Made the
mistake off calling the first mate to look at it. Her response was
unprintable and she may be reconsidering the planned passage across
Biscay.) The photos of St Brendan at Recife are interesting, especially for
the condition of the Vega.

Actually, Cape Evans was the base camp for the Scott Expedition. It's not in the Chesapeake Bay. (but Matt knows that ;-) Craig
