I ended up hiring a document firm to get mine squared away. Cost me $250. Papers showed up 4 months later. Now I pay annually straight to the USCG online.
It is now possible to have a 5 year documentation. If you plan to keep your boat longer than 5 years, there is less paperwork for you and you are protected against any fee increases. Renewing for 5 years reduces the paperwork the USCG has to do and may serve to speed up their response.I ended up hiring a document firm to get mine squared away. Cost me $250. I’ll take a look. I actually need to take care of it today. ThanksIt is now possible to have a 5 year documentation. I thought it important to include in my correspondence to the congressman's office that I was not interested in overburdening a potentially already overburdened system, but also that I was personally facing repercussions, and that the website, phone support system, and staff email responses were nonfunctional and at times negligent. I included my utmost respect for the institutions and agencies in general. This fall I have been communicating with the Chief of the Documentation Office and I can assure you that she and her staff are helpful and pleasant people who are trying to do their jobs to the best of their ability.
One great thing about the less populated states like Alaska - short lines at the DMV. I just finished five years of grad school in San Francisco Bay, and don't even get me started about that nightmare. Pre- and post-doc in DC was no better. Now I wonder how many other states have a similar agency? I would not want to be doing this specialized marine title stuff thru the DMV, where 98% of the expertise is necessarily focused on cars and trucks... !![]()
LOL. I'd hate to see what you refer to as a "problem". ;o)I've never had a problem. I fill it out as instructed and send it in. They send it back and I redo the errors. I send it back and they return it with a whole new set of errors. This goes on for a few months, and then I get my document.
I don't see this method as working well with the postal service in such disarray.
