We would love to go up the Sakonnet into Hope Bay and Fall River, but the cruising guide says the clearence on the Tiverton bridge is 57-70' This site and other information say the 376 has a mast height of 60'+. Any local knowledge about the bride, especially if the 70' section is wide enough to aim for. Paul Akers, have you been this way in your travels? RREgge S/V Allie Kat

Sure Have!

Russel, I'm in Brewer's Sakonnet Marina just north of the bridge and have passed that way many times. My L37 has a 59' stick (from the water) and makes it thru easy enough. Standing at the helm, looking up, is deceiving because of the angle, but it fits. Regarding the horizontal clearance thru the old RR bridge (under the Sakonnet River bridge), the water is deep (50') and the horiz clearance is fine. Keep to the western side of the bridge. There are always fishermen there. As a precaution, if the wind is blowing behind you, drop your sail. I've seen boats motor sail thru there, but I usually drop it unless it's very light wind. The tide can also run pretty hard thru there, so be ready. Many, many boats pass thru there every day. Any more questions, email me thru the owners directory.
