Anyone used a Campbell-Sailor prop on a 33 with the 2qm-15? I'm trying to get rid of the prop vibration that seems to be caused by the two blade prop I am now using (no vibration unless blade in gear, has a definite component related to the blades passing through the deadwood area). Basically, did a lot of the vibration go away when you changed from a 2 to a 3 blade?

Campbell Sailor on a Hunter 34

Not sure about on the 33, but we changed to a Campbell Sailor on our Hunter 34 earlier this year and it seems like a new boat! More power to drive into winds and current, better stopping, and the awful vibration we had has vanished. They aren't cheap, but to us it seems to be money well spent. Gary

Great Prop

I had the same results as Gary, stoped all vibration, more power, better speed, go for it.

Campbell Sailor on a Hunter 36

I also installed a Campbell Sailor on our Hunter 36, 1982 vintage with a Yanmar 3GM engine. The propellor that was on there before was also a three blade prop and I was not experiencing a vibration problem. THe propellor was oversized (15 inch diameter, three blade, 13 inch pitch) for the engine as it would not allow the engine to develop full rpm (3400 rpm) in forward. (Limited to about 2800rpm). Since the propellor was showing signs of pitting and had been changed from an original pitch of 11 inches, I decided to go with the Campbell Sailor. The new prop is a 15 inch diameter, three blade unit with a 9 inch pitch. I found it to be lighter than the other prop. It works very smooth in forward and reverse, but it still does not allow the engine to develop full throttle. The engine now develops about 2900 to 3000 rpm in forward. I would like it to develop full throttle as it is supposed to, but at this time not sure whether there is something wrong with the engine or whether the prop is still oversized. I have checked with the dealer in Canada where I purchased the prop and they feel pretty confident that the prop as pitched should be the correct one for my engine, but it may need to be repitched to a slightly lower value. Other than the fact that the engine will not develop its full throttle capability I am very satisfied with the prop. I have checked just about everything on the engine to make sure it is not the limiting factor. The engine has new pistons, rings, cylinder wall sleves, connecting rod bearings, one new connecting rod, overhauled head, new mixing elbow, new exhaust hose, new waterlift muffler, new injectors and new fuel lift pump. The only item I have not replaced is the injection pump. (Three thousand hours on the engine) I measured the exhaust back pressure and found it to be slightly higher than that recommended by Yanmar, but not much can be done to reduce it to the spec limit. (Water lift muffler is the limiting item) Hope this helps. Ernie

Ernie, call your govenor!

Ernie: Check your engine to see if it will devolop the MAX RPM's in neutral. If it does not, you need to have the govenor adjusted. If you cannot get the MAX RPMs in neutral you are not going to get it in gear. These engines can be safely reved to several hundred RPM's above the max rated range (for a few moments). The Yanmar guy told me not to worry when he was "overreving" the engine while he was adjusting our govenor. This govenor on our 2GM20F has a wire seal on it. The Yannie guy did not recommend that I do this myself. He adjusted it for us while he was doing a valve adjustment. You may want to check with whoever did your engine rebuild.

campbell three blade

Campbell three bladed prop. I don't know the diameter/pitch without going to the boat. My boat is a 1993, 33.5 with a three cylinder 27hp Yanmar. When I ordered the prop I just called Campbell and told them what boat I had and they sent me a prop. Chancy, I know, but it turned out great.

Try the Michigan

Jim, Before you buy you might consider the Michigan Dyna Jet three blade prop with a 14 inch 12 pitch. Try Len's Prop Shop for a reasonable price. I am very happy with mine. (also 1980 33) Joe
