Whisker Pole
I use a whisker pole on my Hunter Legend 35 all the time. I race the boat and when on the run (down wind) leg, to be competive, one must go wing and wing with the main sail out one side and the head sail out to the other. Set the Wpole at 1.6 of J and a 155 head sail really sticks out there. Because the Hunter L35 has a fractional rig we usually bear off 160 degrees to the relative wind and tack on the run. Having tried many different types of whisker poles the one that I like the best is the ForeSpar pole with the internal pulley system that extends the clew end to the desired length.Setting the Wpole requires some coordination with the helm and the deck crew but the results are worth it, especially if you have a 155 genny.ForeSpar has an excellent little hand out that explains the whys and hows of the Wpole. Call them and they might send it to you or put it on the web.Bob DeanS/V SundancePensacola, FL
