CrazyDave, or anyone, can you please tell me if the "foam" stuffing in the bow of the Hunter 23.5 is structural in any way or if it is just for positive bouyancy? Not the removable foam behind the bow interior trim, but the "poured-in" stuff in the compartment and lower bow. I had to open the bow area for bow-eye repairs and the insulation is dirty and disgusting. I also must have had a leak topside somewhere and the compartment with the foam has moisture in it that is rotting the compartment next to it.
I would love to rip this stuff out to be able to check for water damage and to have access to that part of the boat. I don't really need the positive flotation since I only sail in the upper Chesapeake Bay, where if she goes down you can just get out and walk in most areas (local joke). Please see pics...
