I've got three questions, and thought I might as well post them together. Any replies will be cherished! 1) How do you have your anchor locker(s) and rodes set up? Do you use the aft, "hidden" locker, and if so, how the heck do you keep it from filling with stinky mud (besides sailing in some glorious mud-free tropical islands)? 2) Do you find that weather helm is a "handful"? Before I reduce my mast rake below specs, I'd like to get a consensus of other owner's experience? 3) Can you get the large dining table top out of it's storage locker, or have you had to modify the locker ? (Mine hits the cabinet above before it's high enough to remove, and can't be tilted forward enough to clear it...seems the hinge on the hinged panel is too high). Cheers and Happy New Year

Question #3

Hey george, we're just up the water from you at WaterFord Harbor on Clear Lake. A friend of mine, 3 slips down, just bought a new 430 from Ship&Sail and has the same problem with his table. ....Great Idea, ....terrible design/construction!!! I'm in the owners directory for e-mail. good luck, Jim Vincent, Toucan

430 table

A friend of mine had a 430 and he just never put the table back in there, the space behind the setee was used for storage. Ron

430 Questions

George, we've discussed question #1, and pictures of our solution to the anchor well situation will be forwarded shortly. Re: #3, although we leave our table up most of the time, we haven't had any trouble stowing or retrieving the table, although it's a pain in the rear to get it in or out - heavy and bulky. 430 Fixes fron THE FIX

Hi George, I haven't checked in to HOW for a long while and there it was top of the list, 430 questions and boy do I have answers when it comes to this model! 1)I have 300 foot of HT chain in my 'aft' locker. I have a 1/2 inch nylon line tied to the U bolt in the inside of the locker that is tied to the bitter end of the chain rode. It is long enough that if I had to ditch the anchor in a hurry it comes up the chain pipe and out off the windlass for quick cut of a knife (but first clipping an orange round 18" fender stowed inside the 'forward' anchor locker for this express purpose). I have my secondary anchor (a 37lb Bruce) rope/ chain rode in the 'forward' locker. I have plumbed a fresh water spigot and a salt water spigot in the anchor locker (with attached hoses)that I use to spray off the anchor chain as it comes up from depth with all that anerobic detritis. Depending on how available my fresh water system is olding up I prefer to use the fresh water to rinse above the SW for obvious reasons (plankton). Every so often though on must take off the cover in the forward head area and thoroughly rinse with a forceful spray of dockside hosing. 2)I do not have excess WX helm while not being overpowered. My question to you would be what points of sail and wind strengths do you notice this. Sailing Hunters like this is like racing multi-hulls, reef early as the big mains will overpower quickly. 3)The dining table will only go in and out with the bottom facing to midline and the widest portion towards aft. Despite this I had to take a jig saw to the inward (medial) side of the locker and cut off right by the hinge to get rid of the excess wood. We moved aboard this summer getting ready for our circumnavigation in a year and have made many modifications to THE FIX. I have a homepage and will be adding a whole section with pics from my digital camera on all the modifications. Hopefully this will be of help to others so inclined. Dennis
