yes the only penalties are lack of time, wind, and weather when planning a run to anywhere

When @kloudie1 passes by me on coastal Waveland, MS, he will tow me during day and I will tow him at night. then we might make it in 3 days.:liar:
Or...
We could pick up @LooseDiamond on the way and race there for maybe a 4 day arrival.:)

Or perhaps meet at a barrier island, like Horn Island or Petit Bois Island, where @kloudie1 would server Abita Springs Amber beer, @LooseDiamond boil some shrimp, and @woodster would cook steaks for all!:dancing:
Jim...

PS: I forgot the Admiral and I would sing Sailing ditties for entertainment!;)

I'm on Lake Pontchartrain, about 10 or 15 miles closer to you than Kloudie. I can make the Dauphin Island bridge in 2 long days.

Rick,
Pardon my ignorance. Could you tell me where Fayard's is located. Have to stop there on my next trip .

Well they are "gas station" po-boys. Very loaded and well liked along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
I will not rate them, but they do meet many attributes of the famous New Orleans brand po-boys. They are in many locations, but I think Biloxi was the flagship.

I agree that I might even kick in on them for lunches. The singing still stays though.

I think we could all have a easy Day and a fraction to get to Petit Bois Island.
BTW given a good 12 knot South wind, we might not even change course and make it in a long 1 day sail.
Jim...

PS: Fayard doesn't sound very cajun does it!

Hunter H380 Palafox Pier Pensacola
This is a very timely post as I will need local knowledge soon. A friend is bringing his two teenage sons down from Michigan in June for an eight day sailing trip starting in Pensacola. I am new to the area having brought my boat down(trucked) from Lake Erie last year. I am looking for places to anchor and explore. I knew about Dauphin Island and have learned about Horn Island and Petit Bois Island in this post. Any thoughts of other gunkholes or places to show a goodtime?
Back to the thread, if this thread starts a rendezvous, put me down for shrimp or what we need from Joe Patti's.

JohnnyMac.. There are some fine places to sail on the bay west of P-Cola.. Just around west from the Navy base, ya have the old Ft. Mcrea anchorage then Big Lagoon.. then more west to Pirate's Cove and Arnica Bay.. all the way to Wolf Bay.. fine sailing/gunkholing.. a few nice marinas and restaurants ..

Don't forget Lulu's they would certainly get a kick out of that.

While not visitable from a boat the Naval Air Museum is a must see.

You're kidding, right?
I am normally joking and trying to bring a laugh, when not talking about help on a boat!
Read my post#7 above.;)
I grew up in Baton Rouge (Geaux Tigers), my neighbors were all cajun and proud of it. I learned to eat boiled crawfish with one hand or starve, at the cajun neighbors house "Le Blanc's" and taught how to clean a crab leaving just "lumped" meat is less than 30 seconds from a cajun lady who worked in a seafood plant in Grand Isle, LA
The Fayard's are a big family name on Coastal MS.

But the "po' boy" made from fresh New Orleans French bread is tough to beat.

One of the best protected sailing areas of the Gulf are the barrier islands from the "boot" of LA along the FL coast. Great protected anchorage and less crowded beaches.

Ya'll come now!

I always thought with the French sounding last name they were Cajun migrants to the coast, but we left New Iberia when I was a kid so my bayou instincts are a bit off...

Second the Naval Museum, and don't skip the Cubi bar for some San Miguel and a Cubi dog. Maybe you could tie the dinghy up at Sherman cove and hike the 1.5ish miles on the running trail...

Also, try Jaco's at Palafox marina for sunday brunch... Good food and $2 mimosa/champagne/bloody marys...

My boat is about 5 minutes from Kloudie's. This sounds like a good time any dates picked yet?
Johann, I'm originally from Franklin which is about 25 miles east of New Iberia. I live in Lafayette now.
