With the holidays, rain and cold weather I have not had my boat out since September of last year, has any one been able to get out and sail ?

I did meet and sail with Novelman several weeks ago on his boat, had a great time.

I'm hoping for a little bit warmer weather (some where in the 70's) so I can do some light work on my boat in preperationg for this year.

Anyone one else working on their boat ?

Glenn the work never ends but I never let it interfere with sailing. Seem to be able to catch some good weather between the cold fronts. This weekend looks promising. Let me know if you want to go out. Wife's B'day on Sunday so that is out, but Sat is doable. Duane's boat is sitting under snow in Leona Valley right now.

Glen,
I am totally rewiring my boat and should have it ready for an overnight or evening sailing by the last weekend of January. I am also having a fender welded back on (someone broke the weld on a trailer fender while I was sailing) as well as installing a 4" drop trailer hitch to level out the trailer. This should make it easier to load. If I have time I will polish it also. Any time after I go on my 3 day sail in late January, I will be ready to go sailing with you again. Are you up for it?

Caguy / Novelman,

Good to hear from you guys,

Snow on Novelmans boat, burrrrrr.

Caguy, I can't make it this Saturday, If the weather holds, may be next Saturday the 17th ?

Are you going loster hopping for your wifes dinner on Sunday ?

Really nice today, sunny, clear blue skies, a bit cool though here in Northridge.

Novelman, I will be happy to sail with you when your time permits.

Whale watching anyone?

I plan to head out of Oceanside Harbor this weekend for some whale watching. Hope to get a guest slip and spend the night.

Recently there's been discussion of getting together with other trailer sailors in So Cal. I thought I'd post to see if anyone else is interested in bringing their boat over and joining in.

A Nat. Geo. Day of sailing this weekend.

Got out Sat and Mon, to a beautiful two days of sailing. Nice mixture to light to moderate wind.
I was really happy to see large pods of dolphins in the bay. Especially considering they were rewally young. Many were only a couple of feet long. They really love to exhibit that youthful frolic. The pelicans, cormorants and seals were also feeding in the mix.
I'll post pictures and videos as soon as I can upload them.

There were no whales to watch

Went out Sat & Sun as planned. What a beatiful weekend. Couldn't help thinking about all the sailors back east in the freezing cold, while we were enjoying temperatures in the 80's. Ditto what Frank said, no whales , but a whole lot of dolphins and seals. As an added treat there where two tall ships going in and out of Oceanside Harbor. We enjoyed watching them in cannon battles 2 or 3 miles off shore. There was almost no swell at all, really flat. So we were able to just sit and watch the show for quite a while.

My camera went on the fritz, so I don't have pictures to share of the tall ships.

How far out do you go?

My son loved whale watching this summer in morro bay so we bought a fixer Mac 24 hoping to do some ourselves.

When we were out on the ww boat, the fishing fleet broadcast position reports on whales.

Do you get that from boaters off OC?

Well, we were out about six miles, but didn't see any. Rusty with Venture Yacht club, I think went off Pt. Loma, not too far out next to the kelp beds and saw several.

It looks llike Noveman and I will be heading down from MDR to Long Beach for an overnighter there then a round trip to New Port for another overnighter in Long Beach, then back to MDR. We will likely be leaving on Saturday and returning on Monday. Should be good weather and a mild Santana.
Anyone else up for the trip?
This will likely be the last outing before MDR mastup storage locks the boats up for three weeks. They are repaving the mastup lot.
