After installing the Multi 3100 I went for a sail looked at the read out and thought heck this thing (the yacht) is going a lot slower than I thought. I thought we would be sailing at about 6 knots but the 3100 displayed 4.7 knots. So this morning I took a GPS with me and sure as eggs the display is 1 knot out compared to the GPS. Now I know how to recalibrate the 3100 but is the method using the GPS accurate enough to set the calibration. Perfectly still water with "no" tide running and reading knots on the GPS? Anyone thoughts very welcome!

run it over a 1-2 mile course

Mark: Using the GPS should be a good way to calibrate it. I would suggest that you do it over a 1-2 mile course and run in both directions. This should help correct for any current.

Yes good idea Steve

The Navman manual suggests three methods. Comparing with GPS, running over a course and going alng with another boat.
