Hi all,
I am in the process of deciding what direction to take to repower my 1968 Cal 34. The original atomic4 is pretty much done and I need to figure out what comes next.
I would love to hear what other have done and possibly the costs surrounding the project. She is a very solid boat and worth the effort to keep her sailing although I start to wonder where the line should be for putting big dollars into such an old boat.
Has anyone went with an outboard on a Cal 34? Pulling the A4 and using that space for another water tank sounds somewhat tempting. Since I know my sailing won't take me further than the St. Johns river, the Keys and possibly the Bahamas, I am thinkning a 15hp kicker could get me where I needed to go pretty easily.
Thanks for your comments, this has been long in coming.

Dont know if you got any responses...... but a few things to consider.
1 - there are many Atomic 4 rebuilds, or maybe have yours rebuilt
2 - Beta Marine is a great small diesel that will fit in the place of an A4

Good Luck

I repowered the atomic 4 with a 3 cylinder 27hp Yanmar. Love the new engine. Had to glass in two additional pads for the forward (V drive end of engine) mounts and raise the engine cover about 2 inches and extend it 2 inches further into cabin. Was able to reuse the original engine box (entry steps) by adding spacers to cabin sole and removable panel.
