I'm considering purchasing a 1987 Cal 33. During a test sail, the boat seemed to want to pull to the port side when motoring and I needed pressure was needed on the wheel to go straight. Is this normal? Is the prop offset from the center line on these boats?

Normal

Most sailboats do because the prop is at an angle to the water flow.. so it takes a bigger bite on the starboard side thus pushing the bow toward port. Try other boats to prove or disprove this...

Prop Walk

They even have a name for this...its called prop walk and you can actually use it to help you dock the boat

Pulls to Port also

I just purchased a 1988 Cal 33 and have the same problem. When motoring the boat pulls to port and takes some effort on the wheel to hold straight.. When sailing this does not happen. The prop is offset from center but I did not think it would make that much difference, but it does.
