Cal 21 hull 'soft' when putting on trailer

A buddy of mine gave me a Cal 21 that he bought for his son. The son let it sit for 2 years and didn't want to put time into it, so he gave it to me for getting it off his lawn. The boat was up on blocks, and after manhandling it, we got the boat up on the trailer. However, the hull of the boat deformed on the guide (side) rollers. Is it normal for a fiberglass hull to have some give to it? Most of the weight is held by the center rollers on the trailer, but the 'bowing' of the hull when the boat rolled over the high guide rollers made me wonder if the hull has lost integrity. Any advice? Wes

The hull can be pretty thin. The water supports

the hull all over. Don't allow it to lay on hard points for very long. Put some 1x6 boards between the rollers and the hull, bridge two sets of rollers, to spread the force. The glass will take a "set" if it is bent too long.

Wow, what a quick response!!!

I never expected to get a response so quickly! Thanks for your help. You have taken a bit of worry away. I know that I want to get the boat off the trailer or redistribute the load better for the winter, but the trailer is in pretty dire shape. I think after I launch it next year, I'll junk this trailer and get a bunk. W

For now you can block up the trailer with whatever

is stable and handy. I like pressure treated 4x4's about a foot long built up as a crib.
