Caframo Bora fan problem

I just purchased 3 Caframo Bora fans for my Catalina 350. I was impressed with the low current draw in the specs-- only 0.2 amps on high, and they are quiet. They were installed in two existing lighting circuits of 15 amps each, consisting of 10 AWG wire. The peculiar thing is that these fans use some type of electronic speed control rather than a hard switch to change speeds. If any light on the circuit is switched on while a fan is running, the fan shuts down. It will restart and run normally by pushing the button on the front of the fan again, regardless of what other loads are on the circuit. This circuit is lightly loaded to begin with. This wouldn't be a huge deal except that if I get up in the middle of a hot night and switch on a light, the fan in the guest cabin will shut down and no one would know until they woke up in a sweat. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a work-around? Gary Even Keel II Herrington Harbor North, MD

Caframo Fans Quarentined

Gary- I know West Marine pulled all of these fans off the shelf mid last week. I recieved the notice, but didnt pay attention to as why. I'll let you know on Tuesday when I'm back to work. If you bought them at WM, they will take care of you. Rob Hessenius

Bought at Defender

Rob- I bought them at Defender because the price was considerably better and my closest West Marine did not have 3 of them. I'd better contact Defender and see what their policy is. Gary

Reason for Quarentine

Gary- The reason WM pulled the fans was based on an extremely high failure rate and the fans hubs came loose in operation. Rob Hessenius

I had that problem too!

Son of a %$#@!?. Two of the three fans that I purchased had the fans loose on the motor shafts right out of the box! I took them apart and put a drop of CA gel on to try to hold them in place-- then I found the problem with the fan shutting down when a light was switched on. WTF??? Thanks for the info, Rob.
